Description
San Leonardo is an historic estate in Trentino, Italy. A thousand-year-old former monastery, it now the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family.
The estate covers 300 hectares (750 acres) of which 30 are planted to organically grown vineyards. The estate is protected from cold northern winds by the Trentino alps, but open to the moderating breezes from nearby Lake Garda.
The portfolio is headed by the eponymous San Leonardo “grand vin”. This and its second wine Terre di San Leonardo are made from estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot. The Villa Gresti di San Leonardo bottling is based on Merlot with smaller components of the other two varieties, while the oldest Carmenère vines are earmarked for for a varietal-labelled wine.
